Wax dippind candy canes and Disappointment...

I saw this idea on a blog eyeballs by day crafts by night which was wrapping plastic candy canes with homespun fabric. I made them a couple of years ago and some have sold but this year I thought I'd update some of them by dipping them in scented wax 9 I've gone a bit wax dip made this year ;oD

These photo's don't show the detail as I took them quickly without the proper lighting. I'm not sure whether to sell them singly or in packs of 3.

Now for the disappointment

I  bought some new candle scents, they said they weren't diluted but in the listing they did not suggest how much to use. I followed the instructions from another sellers listing; who recommended 5ml per 100g. So as I was mixing 2 scents, cinnamon and apple, to make my cinnamon apple soy candles; using 400g of wax and added 10ml of each scent making a total of 20ml which equals 5ml per 100g. But I could not smell anything so I added another 5ml per scent (I did mix them before adding to the wax) = 30ml - 7.5ml per 100g.

I left it at that and poured the wax. I made 8 and I have lit one to test the scent throw. This is were I was so very disappointed. I couldn't smell a thing ;o(. My only course of action is to see if I can dig out the wax from the tins and re-melt and add more scent. I will give this a go tomorrow.

Make your own photographic studio.....

I needed something to use to take photo's of my smaller items. I searched on line and found small photographic studios, but decided to have a go and make my own...

I started with a lidded box and white card...

Using double sided sticky tape I stuck the sheets of card to the base and sides...

For landscape shots...

For portrait shots...

Yes it is more cumbersome that the ones you can buy as they fold away, but this was free and I like that ;o)

And I made some backdrops from backing papers stuck to cardboard...

Too create mini room sets...

I've been busy....

....making a gift for my friends new baby daughter Ava-Mae. It was fairly straight forward with some fiddly bits, mainly would you believe in making bows to finish it off. Just waiting for the glue to go off and I will take a photo to show you.

Recent listings...

I have finally got some new items listed onto my Folksy site

My mini and large snowmen pegs. They can be used to decorate your Christmas tree, hold gift tags to presents or to hang your Christmas cards on a jute string line.

I have listed my cinnamon spice candles and my scented wax dipped pine cones

As the wax is a thin coating you can not only put them in a bowl (as shown) or add them to my rosehip potpourri, you can put them on open fires and in log burners to release the scent, but only use  a couple at a time.

They come packaged in a cellophane bag with approx 25 cones to a bag.

I have also listed my rosehip potpourri
One full cup of scented rosehips to give your home a warm subtle Christmas/winter aroma.

Made some candles

You may remember a post last month where I mentioned I had purchased a number of candle tins.

Well I bought some soy wax (which fortuitously came with wicks) and I have made a dozen candles from the 1kg of wax.

I scented them using scented wax cubes.
